What is Niacinamide for the skin?

Niacinimde is a form of B3 which is an essential nutrient for your skin. It is a vitamin that works with skin cells to keep them looking healthy.

What are the benefits of Niacinamide?

  • Anti- inflammatory- Decreases inflammation caused by sensitivity, acne, and/or irritants.

  • Reduces hyperpigmentation- Lightens dark spots, brightens skin, evens out skin tone.

  • Treats acne- improves texture, decreases inflammation. If consistently used you will see fewer breakouts and scars.

  • Reduces redness/ Rosacea- Calms red and inflamed skin, soothes sensitive and/or irritated skin.

  • Anti-aging- Niacinamide can reduce/eliminate fine lines and wrinkles keeping the skin firm.

  • Protects against environmental Pollutants- Niacinamide helps to form a protective layer over the skin to help block out pollution, toxins and UV ray damage.

  • Enhance Lipid barrier- Niacinamide helps increase ceramide production which retains moisture in the skin. This is ideal for those struggling with eczema, dry skin, and mature skin.

  • Balances Oil production- By enhancing the lipid barrier this will benefit oily skin types as it stops the over production of sebum (oil).

Who should be using Niacinamide?

Anyone can use niacinamide, including pregnant women and sensitive skin types. If you are concerned with any of the following; acne, scarring, pigmentation, sun damage, redness, rosacea, eczema, dryness, aging, wrinkle prevention, oily skin, and/or black heads then you are the perfect candidate.

When will I see results?

You should be able to see minor results ( calmed skin, plumping, soothing, etc) automatically, but drastic results (less acne, even skin tone, etc,) over 2-4 weeks. Remember skin care takes time and consistency. Do not give up! Your skin will get better!

What are the side effects of Niacinamide?

Niacinamide is overall a very safe ingredient to use. There is always a possibility of allergens. If you are worried about having a reaction, do a patch test on the inside of your wrist 24hrs before using the product on your face. If you experience any burning or swelling, wash the area and discontinue using. Also temporary side effects of flushing/tingling can occur when using niacinamide, this is very common and should not be worrisome.

What should I look for when picking out a product?

Depending on the skin concern, 2% Niacinamide is a sufficient amount to help with eczema or any conditions similar (dry skin, inflammation, rosacea, acne, etc). While 5%-10% Niacinamide should be used for hyperpigmentation and concerns related to sun damage. If you cannot find a percentage listed make sure that it is rather high up on the ingredients list.
