Being on the front line working as an essential worker can be especially hard on the skin. Wearing a face mask for a long period of time can be extremely irritating and disrupt the skin barrier leading to more skin problems. Here we’re going to give our best suggestions for dryness, irritation, blemishes, and indentations caused by face masks!

Make sure to read through the entire blog as we have plenty of skincare recommendations and a discount code ready for you to use at the end!

Struggling with Dryness/Irritation?

Irritation and dryness from wearing a mask is probably one of the top concerns that we hear from essential workers. Due to the constant friction and trapped moisture from the face mask many of us may be experiencing more dryness and irritation than usual. What we want to do here is create a barrier between our skin and the mask to ensure that it doesn’t compromise the skin barrier. We’ll be able to do that with the use of thicker creams, balms, oils, and primers.

If you’re not comfortable applying thick products all over the face, you can focus it on the area beneath the mask and areas you experience irritation. It will also be helpful to keep a travel size toner in your bag for periods where skin is unbearably dry & irritated.

For our Cabin Crew friends or anyone wearing makeup we highly suggest double cleansing with gentle cleansers. We don’t want to over-strip the skin after a long day in dry/recycled air.

Dermaquest Nourishing Peptide Rich - Creamy balm texture with added peptides

Noticing aging skin due to wearing a mask?

I’m sure we’ve all either experienced or have seen videos of the deep indentations wearing a mask can cause. Unfortunately, this harsh pressure can cause aging so we have some tips to help plump the area and stimulate collagen.

Facial massage is going to play a big role here. We recommend our Opal Gua Sha as it minimizes tugging on the skin and is small enough to focus around the area where the mask is worn. This will help to encourage circulation throughout the skin, minimize swelling & puffiness, as well as plump up areas where you are noticing sagging and creasing.

Collagen boosting ingredients will be an important step in your skincare routine. Vitamin C will boost collagen throughout the day while Bakuchiol will stimulate collagen during the night. This is a great anti-aging routine for anyone and everyone.

We Recommend:

Dermaquest C Infusion Serum - with added peptides

Dermaquest Renewal Cream - Vitamin A derivative and hyaluronic acid

Struggling with Maskne?

Maskne is a term used for blemishes caused by wearing a face mask. This can be the result of trapped moisture & bacteria, and excessive friction from the mask. It’s a tough struggle so here are some tips and tricks that we have for you.

First off, make sure that you are wearing a fresh mask daily! This will decrease the amount of bacteria being spread on a day to day basis. If you have a feeling that bacteria is what is causing your blemishes then we recommend using skincare containing anti-bacterial properties.

However, there is a big chance that you are experiencing maskne as a result from a compromised skin barrier.  We often see this from oily/acne prone skin types as they tend to avoid hydrating ingredients. Although it may seem counterintuitive, hydrating products are a must for all skin types! Hydration is key and will prevent massive amounts of damage to the skin.

We Recommend:

Dermaquest Niacinamide Youth Serum - Hydrate & Correct without exfoliation

Dermaquest DermaClear BHA Cleanser - Perfect for a nighttime cleanse with 2% salicylic acid
